Dorothy Jones-Davis, beyond the fairy tale
She grew up in a housing project in Connecticut. "My first visit to campus was during a blizzard—but the campus is actually more beautiful in the snow. It looked like a fairy tale. It was such a contradiction to where I was from. I thought: 'I need to be here. My life could change here.' And it did." She majored in psychobiology, published her research, and earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Michigan. Now she's a science and technology policy fellow at the National Science Foundation, working on strategies for broadening participation in the STEM workforce. Class of 1998.
